Week #2 – Demolition

The second week into the remodel, Dean, the lead carpenter on the job has prepared the attic for construction. Scaffolding was erected to allow safe and easy entry into the work space.  Temporary electric outlets were installed to allow us to light the space and provide power for tools.  Remnants of the existing floor were removed to allow the plumbers and electricians to install their underfloor roughs.  Even at this early stage, the basic layout of the bathroom is now set and the fixtures are all on site.

Rough Plumbing Installed

After the plumbing is inspected and OK’d by the city, we will be ready for the real demolition work to begin.  We will start by systematically removing small portions of the roof; just enough to stock building materials at first, then cutting back more and more to leave the edges of the roof framing while we build the new walls and dormers.  At this point, Dean needs to be ready for anything the weather has in store for us and to take full advantage of the last of the sunny days while the roof is open.

Everyone is getting in on the act, although some are working harder than others.  Celebration the cat takes one of her characteristic breaks from the action while Travis the dog supervises the activity in the yard!
