Welcome to the Powell Construction Remodeling Blog!

Week #9

October 24th, 2008 Posted in Kings Blvd. Remodel

From the outside the additions may look the same as last week, but inside some incredible changes have been taking place!  On the interior of the additions we have removed the existing walls of the house.  The master suite addition now ties into the study, and the kitchen addition has been opened up to the existing kitchen.

When we remove existing walls we always install dust protection to help keep construction dust and debris out of the rest of the house.  During the fall and winter dust protection also provides heat containment.  In extreme temperatures we can even install temporary plywood walls to better insulate the home.  At this point we’ll work as quickly as we can to insulate and drywall the additions, and eliminate heat loss through the new spaces.  The picture below shows typical “plastic walls” we use to enclose openings.

Besides removing the existing walls, we also had our rough plumbing installed.  The picture below shows the plumbing for our new bathtub.  In coming weeks we will add a “Selection Page” to the blog.  You can view the selection page to see all of the materials and products used in the project!

Next week we’ll be installing windows.  Two carpenters work together here to install a second story window.
