Investing in Your Home

According to Oregon Home magazines’s remodeling supplement, “Housing values remain stronger in Oregon than in the rest of the country, and that goes for remodeling too.” With interest rates still relatively low, it’s a good time to remodel. Home improvements are one of the few investments that provide enjoyment in the present and increase your financial picture for the future.

“For most people, their home is the single biggest investment they will ever make, and most people have the largest portion of their net worth tied up in their primary residence,” states Oregon Remodeling. “Done properly, a home improvement project can provide a real boost to your personal balance sheet by increasing the value of that investment and providing some tax relief along the way.”

“Oregon’s strict land-use laws and metropolitan area urban growth boundary restrictions make it easier to remodel than build new homes,” states Oregon Remodeling. Corvallis in particular has a very limited number of buildable lots. This limited supply of land increases the value of all of our homes. Not only are our homes going up in value but any wisely planned improvements that we make to our homes also appreciate with time. Keep in mind that the remodeling you do on your home is only as valuable as the workmanship. Any improvements need to be well constructed because remodeling that is poorly done can actually devalue a house.

We have had many past customers tell us that the remodeling on their homes was one of the best investments of their lifetime. Most are still in their homes and enjoying their investment while a few have sold and either moved out of the area or moved to larger homes. One such homeowner said that when she sold her home, the kitchen remodel that we had done two years earlier increased the value of her home by twice the cost of the project. And the enjoyment she got out of her new kitchen in the meantime was in her words “priceless.”

So, if you’ve been dreaming about a new kitchen or a family room addition it’s not just a great idea, it’s a sound investment, and there’s never been a better time.
