ADA/Accessible Kitchen, CorvallisThis Corvallis kitchen was adapted to be wheelchair accessible using state of the art technology. Accessible kitchen features include "verti-shelving lift systems" (see below), drawers and pull-outs instead of shelves in the base cabinetry, a side-opening wall oven, accessible sink, and cook-top mirror. On the floor, Johnsonite rubber tiles were used for their great traction and extra cushion when standing. ![]() The cabinet lift system is an electronically operated shelving system. By using a switch adjacent to the cabinet, the homeowner can lower their dishes to the countertop. These shelves make the cabinetry accessible to people of different heights and abilities.
This side-opening oven, mounted at 33" above the floor, eliminates bending over to see in and can be easily accessed from a wheelchair. ![]() The kitchen sink was installed with the faucet on the side, allowing for easier access to the controls. Next to the sink a pullout was provided for soap and spice storage. Also, the doors under the sink are hinged so that they recess into the base cabinet. This allows for a person in a wheelchair to roll under the sink. ![]() Plugs and switches are mounted on the front of the cabinetry for easy reach. A stainless steel mirror is mounted above the cook-top so that the tops of pots and pans can be seen from a seated position. ![]() |
