These clients felt very rooted to their location: a rural home where they had raised their children.
However, a below-grade garage with a two-story house above meant they were continually climbing stairs. Bringing in groceries required carrying heavy bags upstairs from the garage to the main floor. Doing laundry required a trip downstairs from the top floor to the main floor with an awkward laundry basket in hand, and then back up again with the baskets of clean laundry.
It was not a safe or comfortable design for aging in place.
The solution was a private, three-story elevator … and as it turns out, the best location opens into the master bath on the top floor. It’s a little unconventional, but it precisely suits our clients’ needs, and it provides an elegant solution for enjoying their retirement in a home they cherish.
