This is the first blog in a series on green finish materials for your home. Linoleum, a natural product that’s been used as flooring for over 100 years, is not only environmentally friendly but also extremely durable and becoming quite popular to use as a flooring material in areas of the home that get sloppy and wet in our Corvallis winters. Linoleum is similar to cork in feel, as in its soft under foot, but comes in a variety of patterns and colors to suit your home design. Named after the key ingredient, Linseed oil, linoleum contains all natural ingredients such as rosin, wood flour, and limestone all on a jute backing. The material is also produced in an environmentally friendly way to save our natural resources. Linoleum is naturally fire resistant, anti-static, easy to maintain, and resists bacteria, plus it comes as either tiles or sheet goods, depending on installation location and use. Speaking of uses, this product can also be made into furniture, countertops, or home accessories. Since this material is so versatile, it can work with any design style. We have samples available in the Powell Construction Design Studio for you to check out. Stop in, speak to one of our designers, and see this product for yourself.
