Most of our projects at Powell Construction are comprehensive remodels where designers and carpenters work closely to see a project through from start to finish. Even if hiring a contractor to redo your kitchen cabinets and build you a new island isn’t for you, there are so many trendy cosmetic changes that can be made!
Bring Back Wallpaper
Wallpaper used to be a headache to apply and remove. However, with new technology and designs, wallpaper is making a comeback. Wallpaper is now easier to install and available in richer colors, or with natural fibers such as grass-cloth, silk, bamboo, or cork incorporated into the design. In addition, there is a wide range of patterns and prints to choose from, including dramatic oversized images. You can even customize your own prints. Wallpaper is a relatively inexpensive way to transform a room and reflect your own personal style.

Mixing Metal Accents
Incorporating accents of different metal finishes is an exciting way to give a space depth and character. We suggest you begin by selecting a dominant metal to use in a specific space, followed by an accent metal. When placing the metal items, separate the metals by height and make sure to keep the primary metal dominant throughout the space.

Coming in 2019: Modular Design
Although this isn’t a new concept, with more people continuing to live in small homes (and with the advent of the “tiny house”), multi-functional spaces are becoming a must. People have begun to hunt for compact furnishings with varying functions. Even movable walls have made their way into the design scene. Say you are trying to choose between using that extra room as a home office or a guest bedroom. Why not both? If you install a Murphy bed, you can simply hide it away in the wall until guests come to town!
