In the first few days on the job we demolished the walls and removed all the existing fixtures & finishes in the Kitchen & Sitting Room areas.
As to be expected in an old home like this we found many interesting and unexpected things once the walls, ceilings and floors were opened up. The main issue we had to address was the original structural beams had been cut during some renovation in the past, making them no longer structurally sound. We brought in our Structural Engineer and then reframed the first floor ceiling above the Sitting Room to give it the structural integrity it had been missing for who knows how long.
After the new framing was in place, we brought in our Plumbers and Electricians to set in the new rough plumbing and electrical.
If you’ve never seen a house opened up to its framing, it’s a really interesting view and helpful for understanding how things work. A lot is happening beneath those pretty surfaces we see on a daily basis!
