Gather together those magazine pictures you’ve been collecting and start thinking about what you really want. Do you want a kitchen with the latest in appliance technology? Are you picturing a luxurious bathroom with a jetted tub? Do you like recessed lighting or do you prefer something more traditional?
Once you have a good idea of what you want, it’s important that this gets conveyed clearly to your builder. If you have magazine clippings don’t hesitate to show them to him. They will help him to get a feel for what you are visualizing.
Take advantage of the opportunity to look at photos of the builder’s work and/or visit other homes that he’s remodeled or built. This can be invaluable in assuring a mutual understanding of both style and level of quality.
An experienced builder will walk you through the process of detailing out your project. He’ll join your mutual visions into plans and specifications to ensure that you are both on the same page and that your visualization becomes a reality.
