At Powell Construction, every project begins with a dream. Sometimes, it takes a tragedy to bring that dream into focus. The story of one of our first custom homes is one we’ll never forget.

In the summer of 2016, one of our longtime clients experienced a devastating house fire—everything but the garage was lost. The property, located in Albany, Oregon, was their dream setting, offering sweeping views of Mount Jefferson, picturesque meadows, and a nearby stream. In the wake of such heartbreaking loss, they chose to see an opportunity: to rebuild a home that was not only beautiful but better suited to their lifestyle.

Together, we embarked on their most ambitious project yet—a brand-new custom home that would reflect their vision and bring their dream to life.
The 4,300-square-foot floor plan was thoughtfully designed to support multi-generational living. The primary suite is situated at one end of the home, while a separate in-law suite—complete with its own private entrance and kitchenette—anchors the other. This layout offers both privacy and connection, allowing everyone to share a home while still enjoying their own space.
One of the standout features is the open-concept great room, where vaulted ceilings and rustic wood beams frame expansive windows, blending grandeur with inviting warmth. A true masonry fireplace—a rarity in new construction—serves as the heart of the room. Special care was taken to showcase the family’s cherished white grand piano, ensuring it holds a place of prominence.

We worked closely with the homeowners through every step of the design-build process, collaborating on decisions both big and small—each detail tailored to their unique vision. Few things mean more to us than being invited back by returning clients. This home is a testament to that trust, and a celebration of what’s possible when creative design, expert craftsmanship, and shared purpose come together.
We’re honored to have been part of this family’s journey—and grateful for the opportunity to help create not just a house, but a home that will be cherished for generations.
