From the Designer’s Desk: 2025 Design Trends

January 13, 2025

Each new year sparks a bold, fresh direction for design, brimming with exciting possibilities. Although our designers lean towards a timeless approach, it’s always fun to stay in the loop with the latest happenings in the design world. We’ve observed some emerging themes that are likely to make their mark in 2025, and we’re excited to share a few with you. We hope these ideas kindle some inspiration for your home projects this year!

Dramatic Solid Surfaces

When it comes to the solid surfaces this year, we expect to see bolder colors and veining. Though timeless marbles and marble-like quartz have been the prominent picks for solid surfaces these last few years, we’ve seen that homeowners are beginning to experiment with more daring selections. Natural stones, like quartzite and moody marbles, are set to be major trends this year. Taking drama to the next level, slab backsplashes will be a standout feature, not just in kitchens but also in bathrooms. Showers will embrace more solid surfaces in striking styles, with fewer grout lines for a sleek, seamless look. Beyond natural stone, there’s a wide range of quartz and porcelain options that offer an impactful, eye-catching aesthetic.

Furniture-Style Islands

Kitchens in 2025 will feature many more furniture-style islands. It seems that many are seeking to create more curated, personalized spaces with a touch of old-world charm. The kitchen island is a great place to bring this vision to life. Inspired by antique shop counters, dairy tables, & drapers tables these islands bring a heritage feel to any kitchen. Even dining tables are making a debut in the kitchen. We love the character and openness a furniture-style island gives a kitchen–it makes it feel like the gathering space we’re looking for!

Minimal & Sculptural Lighting

An emerging trend we noticed gaining momentum in late 2024 is the shift towards minimal or no ceiling lighting. Designer spaces are moving away from can lights & larger statement ceiling fixtures, opting for minimal fixtures that are strategically positioned for task lighting. The statement ceiling fixtures that we will see this year are more sculptural and organic in form, offering an art-inspired touch. To supplement the reduced ceiling lighting, more under-cabinet lights, lamps, and accent lighting are being incorporated, creating a warm and layered ambiance.

Warm Whites Paired with Wood

White kitchens have stood the test of time for their versatility and clean aesthetic. The shift from cooler whites toward warmer, off-whites and neutrals adds a touch of softness and approachability. Pairing these warmer tones with wood elements—whether in the form of islands, cabinetry, or flooring—introduces natural textures that enhance the coziness and organic feel of the space. We love this combination as it offers a refined version of a timeless classic!

Pattern Play

Patterns will take center stage in interiors this year, making an impact across everything from wallpaper and drapes to furniture. You’ll see a mix-and-match approach to patterns, creating spaces that feel both curated and timeless. A playful contrast can be achieved by combining traditionally masculine and feminine patterns, such as florals and stripes. The trick to a balanced combination in pattern mixing is choosing cohesive colors and varying the scale and intensity of each one.

Color Drenching

Another movement carrying over from 2024 is color drenching, where entire rooms are enveloped in a single, standout hue for a rich and immersive effect. Both warm and cool colors will be used throughout rooms, from ceilings and walls to doors and window trims, creating a cohesive and vibrant atmosphere. This style is most effective when paired with millwork on walls or ceilings, allowing the colors to highlight and enhance the room’s textural elements. If you prefer white-painted walls, infuse warmth and personality into your space by choosing rich upholstery fabrics or colorful accent pieces.

Discreet Technology

While technology is convenient and helps make our lives easier, we like it to be hidden & discreet. Essential items like TVs and calendars are being seamlessly integrated into design, with pieces like The Frame TV and smart calendars disguised as artwork or photos. Increasingly, appliances are paneled to blend with cabinetry, and small appliances are tucked away in concealed spots, keeping the kitchen clean and streamlined.

Dark Wood Tones

While light white woods have been popular for several years, this year we expect to see a shift towards richer, darker wood tones like stained oak, mahogany, and walnut. These deeper tones add depth and a sense of luxury. They evoke a feeling of cozy intimacy while also grounding a space. Contrasting the darker wood, whites and light colors will remain as favored paint choices.

We hope you’ve enjoyed exploring some highlights of what’s on the horizon. That said, we always encourage a well-curated style that reflects your personal taste–choices you’ll continue to love as trends evolve. Consider incorporating the trendy with elements that are easy on the wallet, like pillows, paint, and artwork, rather than countertops, large furniture pieces, or tilework. When choosing a color palette, focus on shades that make you smile and create a space you’re excited to come home to.
