An everlasting memorial to an incredible woman – our beloved, Heidi Powell.
One year ago, we said goodbye to Heidi. Her legacy and impact on our lives, company, and community were – and still are – immeasurable. As we remember Heidi, we’re honored to finally reveal one of the most meaningful projects we’ve ever had the privilege of creating – Heidi’s Storybook English Cottage.
While we’ve quietly held this project close to our hearts over the past year, now feels like the right time to share. To pull back the curtain on the dream she and Tom and our team worked so hard to bring to life. Far exceeding a remodel, this home stands as a reflection of Heidi’s legacy and a testament to our company’s dedication to thoughtful design and enduring craftsmanship.
Tucked behind a garden gate, surrounded by flowers and vine covered arches, Heidi’s Cottage feels like stepping into a fairytale.
But it didn’t always look this way.
Originally built in 1938 as a modest bungalow, the home transformed over time. Inspired by their family travels to England, France and Carmel’s fairytale cottages by the sea, Heidi dreamed of transforming the house into a timeless English-style cottage. Ove the years, she and Tom reimagined the exterior and cultivated a breathtaking English Garden. Yet one piece remained on the wish list – Heidi’s dream kitchen.
Last year, we completed that final chapter: an addition with a new kitchen, butler’s pantry, breakfast nook, & garden entry. We also added a wraparound porch and remodeled the home’s interior to add a study. At long last, Heidi’s dream was complete – one she had patiently waited years to see fulfilled.
Every corner of this cottage speaks to who Heidi was — thoughtful, creative, nurturing, and full of grace. A window seat thoughtfully designed to overlook the garden. A breakfast nook just big enough for morning coffee and quiet conversation. A custom bookshelf built specifically to hold the Harvard Classics collection she once gifted Tom.
Every detail tells a story of love, family, legacy, and home. Her story. This was a project she poured her heart into. And it shows.
Heidi’s Storybook English Cottage is a lasting reminder of why we do this work — not just to create beautiful spaces, but to build homes with meaning. Homes that feel like the people who live in them. This cottage feels like her — warm, welcoming, and layered with a poetic spirit.
We will forever cherish Heidi’s Storybook English Cottage as a piece of her enduring legacy – honoring her life, her creativity, her love of home, and the light she brought to everyone around her.
Heidi, thank you for trusting us with your vision. It was the greatest gift. Your home will always be a reflection of the beauty you brought to the world – and into our lives.
