Timeless Mid-Century Addition
— CORVALLIS, OR —

This inviting and timeless midcentury addition was designed to accommodate the needs of a growing family. With the arrival of a newborn, the family’s primary need was more space. We expanded with a second story above the garage, creating a new primary suite, laundry room, and office. In addition, we remodeled their cozy downstairs family room. Our design aimed to create a warm, colorful, and timeless atmosphere that would complement the original style of the home while offering functional, modern living spaces for the family.
More about this project
We incorporated richly stained wood cabinetry and doors throughout the addition, complemented by strategic pops of navy blue, yellow, and orange accents. The cheery laundry room became a focal point & sunny spot to do household chores. Its yellow walls, warm wood cabinets, navy herringbone backsplash, and clean white countertops all contribute to its charming atmosphere. The cabinets feature adjustable shelving for storing laundry baskets, a utility sink, a countertop over the washer and dryer for folding, and a rod for hang-drying delicate items.
The new bathroom in the primary suite features a large double vanity painted navy blue, quartz countertops, and a solid surface shower with a frameless glass door. The shower surround has hues of blue and grey that coordinate beautifully with the bathroom’s light and airy aesthetic, which is amplified by a skylight and sun tunnel. Oil-rubbed bronze fixtures and accessories contrast perfectly with the light walls, adding depth and visual interest.
The existing family room was remodeled to enhance its functionality and design. Built-in cabinetry wraps around the room, and a new fireplace with a brick surround became the room’s focal point. The cabinetry was carefully designed to match the original wood-paneled ceilings of the home, creating a seamless flow between the old and the new. Ample shelving now displays family games, books, and keepsakes, and oil-rubbed bronze library lights highlight these cherished items.
One of the biggest challenges of this project was integrating the new addition to reflect the home’s existing character. With careful attention to details, the new spaces blend effortlessly with the original architecture, maintaining the home’s essence while offering modern upgrades. The final result was a beautifully expanded and remodeled home that met this growing family’s needs while preserving the warmth and charm of their home. The family is thrilled with the addition of their new primary suite, stunning laundry room, and transformed family room.
