Rainforest-Inspired Bathroom Remodel
— CORVALLIS, OR —

The transformation began with a vision to reclaim underutilized space, converting an attached home office into a spacious primary ensuite. The homeowners wanted the new space to reflect the lush forest surrounding their home while evoking the Central American rainforests they fell in love with during several mission trips to that area.
To bring this “forest-within-a-forest” concept to life, the layout was completely reimagined. A standard window was replaced with a full-light glass door, providing a direct path to the outdoor hot tub. This structural change, paired with an abundance of windows, allows the room to be bathed in natural light, ensuring the space feels open and connected to the natural environment.
More about this project
The heart of the design lies in its rich, organic material palette. Central to the project was a unique collaboration: the homeowner worked side-by-side with a close friend and master cabinet maker to hand-build the vanities and wrap the home’s exposed beams. They chose Curly Maple for all the woodwork, a material prized for its shimmering, undulating grain.
This warmth is balanced by dramatic Rainforest Green Marble. Used across the shower walls, vanity countertop, and backsplash, its vibrant veining mirrors the tangled beauty of the forest. Green tiles laid in a herringbone pattern on the shower end walls complement the stone without competing with it, while pebble mosaic on the shower floor and raw cement sinks add texture and a grounded, natural feel to the space.
Because we were working with such bold materials, balance was essential. A durable luxury vinyl tile in a quiet, neutral pattern was chosen for the flooring, offering warmth underfoot and allowing the marble and maple to shine. A deep green paint wraps the room in a cohesive, serene moss glow.
The result is an immersive retreat that goes beyond function, creating a bridge between the homeowners’ favorite memories abroad and the natural beauty of their own backyard.
