Airy Contemporary Kitchen
– CORVALLIS, OR –
This one-of-a-kind kitchen is the result of a fairly extensive remodel. When the homeowners contacted us, they had a tiny, cramped kitchen poorly connected to adjacent rooms. We worked with them to create a more efficient and integrated design that reflects their contemporary style. The new kitchen is much larger and more functional, making better use of existing space, and it beautifully meets the homeowners’ needs for both day-to-day living and entertaining.
More about this project
Before the remodel, the kitchen was connected to the dining room by a narrow door opening. (See BEFORE PHOTOS below.) This constriction was exacerbated by a wall oven at that same opening: when the oven door was open, it blocked passage between the rooms. On the other side of the kitchen, a family room wasn’t visually well connected to the kitchen, and there was wasted floor space between the two rooms. Overall, the kitchen felt severely cramped, lacked adequate storage, and was poorly connected to adjacent spaces.
The new kitchen is far more functional for cooking, and it relates better to the dining and family rooms. We enlarged the kitchen by expanding into the formerly wasted space, creating roomy work areas for cooking and cleanup, and installed all new custom cabinets. Storage of food and other items were consolidated for maximum efficiency.
We greatly expanded the opening into the dining room, connecting the two rooms both visually and functionally. We graced the opening with an arch and a counter that can be used as a buffet. The sink window was enlarged, and wall cabinets were replaced by cantilevered open shelves – giving the kitchen an airy, contemporary flavor. White Shaker-style cabinets lend a fresh feeling as well.
The kitchen remodel included all new, energy-efficient LED lighting, new KitchenAid appliances, and a full-height tile backsplash. We installed PentalQuartz countertops in “Sahara” with an undermount stainless steel sink and Moen faucet. US Floors’ COREtec luxury vinyl plank flooring in “Delta Rustic Pine” flows from the kitchen into the adjacent spaces, visually tying them together.
On the family room side of the kitchen, a work counter allows for sitting and in-kitchen dining. A separate desk area completes the layout of the kitchen space.
The redesigned kitchen acts as a central hub of the home. It comfortably meets the homeowners’ cooking needs while integrating with adjacent spaces. Plenty of storage space, fresh low-maintenance finishes, and bright lighting in work areas make a welcome update to this family’s home!
