Charcoal Blue Kitchen Remodel
– CORVALLIS, OR –

This homeowner came to us with a cramped, dated kitchen and a desire to make it more modern and functional for everyday use. The existing space contained limited cabinetry and not many options for reconfiguration.
More about this project
Fortunately, we were able to remove a non-load bearing wall and relocate the kitchen to an unused dining room. This new layout created space for a cozy breakfast nook with a built-in bench, a convenient home office, and a large island with an integrated cooktop. To preserve the new kitchen’s nice run of cabinetry, we decided to reposition the exterior door that leads out to a large back porch.
The client wanted a contemporary look that reflected their personal style while also being practical for future resale value. They preferred low-maintenance surfaces and dark tones that would better conceal everyday messes compared to a lighter palette. We chose a charcoal blue for the cabinets and Pental’s beautiful “Cinza” quartz for the countertops. When selecting two dark elements that are similar in value, opting for one cool tone (the blue of the cabinets) and one warm tone (the browns of the Cinza) helps provide contrast. The cool, light blue backsplash tile is the perfect complement, with an eye-catching crackle detail.
For the flooring, we installed a luxury vinyl plank from CoreTEC. It contains both gray and brown tones that bring an overall warmth to the space while still being contemporary and will do a great job concealing dirt. It’s an economical choice that is resistant to wear and tear, a good option for those with pets or children.
The black slate appliances have a modern look and provide a striking contrast to the stainless sink, faucet, and cabinet hardware. The custom-made trim kit for the built-in microwave provides a seamless look, as it matches the surrounding cabinetry. The redesigned space is stylish and functional and has changed the way the homeowner uses the kitchen and the space as a whole. When the project wrapped up, the homeowner told us that if they’d known what a difference the remodel would make, they would have done it years earlier!
