Contemporary Maple Kitchen Remodel
— CORVALLIS, OR —

This home was built in 1906 and has had a multitude of renovations over the years. Consequently, the original kitchen was long gone. While many might aim to recreate a turn-of-the-century look, our customers sought a completely contemporary kitchen remodel. Integrating this style into the rest of the home was our design challenge.
More about this project
We were able to achieve cohesiveness with a few inventive design details. We mimicked the living room’s vintage architectural columns when creating the supports of the new island and re-used existing vintage doors, refinishing them to their former glory. The Marmoleum flooring installed throughout the new space also gives a decided nod to the past.
In addition to a modern aesthetic, the homeowners wanted a kitchen that was both efficient and easy to maintain. To this end, we designed a custom glass panel backsplash using architectural glass (no grout!), Caesarstone countertops (“Oyster”), and flat-slab cabinet doors. The cabinet drawers were made of maple, which is one of the hardest, most durable, and evenly patterned woods. All of these elements combine to make this kitchen easy to keep clean and will hold up well throughout many years to come.
