Every home has its quirks—spaces that don’t quite function the way they should, layouts that interrupt daily life, or styles that no longer reflect the people who live there. In this edition, we’re taking a closer look at some of our interior remodels, highlighting the challenges our customers faced and how we worked together to find creative, functional design solutions. From awkward floorplans to underused rooms, these before-and-after transformations show just how much is possible when design is rooted in both beauty and purpose.
—A “Lofty“ Transformation—

This remodel wasn’t just about the kitchen—it was about rethinking how the entire main floor worked. In this 1980s home, a poorly placed staircase to the loft sat awkwardly in the center of the house, cutting off flow and blocking views. Relocating the stairs allowed us to expand the kitchen and create an open, inviting space perfect for multi-generational gatherings.

The homeowners had long dreamed of a kitchen that blended function with timeless character. Thoughtful custom cabinetry features, like a fold-up countertop extension, built-in step stools, and hidden storage throughout make this kitchen as practical as it is beautiful.
By addressing both layout and design, this remodel opened up the home in every sense—bringing light, flow, and connection to the heart of daily life.

—A Unified Main Floor—
This main floor remodel brings together a beautiful new living area and kitchen, a reimagined fireplace, and custom dining room storage to create a home that feels cohesive, comfortable, and connected. We’ll be sharing the before-and-afters of each space one at a time—hope you enjoy the transformations!
LIVING AREA & KITCHEN: While the kitchen remodel played an important role, a large part of this transformation was about creating a more cohesive and comfortable main floor. The homeowners wanted to modernize their space while preserving a warm, inviting feel. Light gray cabinetry paired with rich walnut flooring brings warmth and flow between the kitchen and living area, making the entire space feel brighter, more open, and perfectly connected.

FIREPLACE MAKEOVER: A large, double-sided wood-burning fireplace once dominated the center of the living room, visually cutting off the dining room from the kitchen despite a wide opening between them. Replacing it with a smaller, gas version helped open up the space dramatically. Finished with clean white shiplap above, the new fireplace acts as a modern focal point without overpowering the room—a stylish solution that brings balance to the entire main floor.

DINING ROOM WITH BUILT-IN STORAGE: To round out the remodel, we added custom built-in cabinetry in the dining room, including a hutch and buffet-style countertop. This thoughtful addition provides both function and beauty—plenty of storage for dishes and serving pieces, plus a convenient spot for setting out food and drinks when entertaining. It’s the kind of detail that enhances everyday living while making gatherings a breeze.

—From 1990’s to Refreshing Modern Farmhouse Appeal—
BEFORE:
This 1990s home no longer matched the homeowner’s evolving lifestyle. As their family matured, they were craving a space that felt cozier, more grounded, and better suited to how they lived day to day. The home felt expansive but lacked warmth, and while the layout itself still worked, the finishes and details had begun to feel dated—particularly the oak built-ins and underutilized fireplace in the living room.

AFTER:
Without removing or adding a single wall, this full-home remodel brought a completely new feel to the space—transforming it into a modern farmhouse retreat. White shiplap was introduced on select walls and ceilings, adding texture and softening the overall look of the large, open spaces. In the living room, outdated oak built-ins were replaced with clean, white painted ones that offer a mix of open shelving, cupboards, and drawers for flexible storage. The fireplace, once overlooked, is now a warm focal point that blends beautifully with the surrounding design. To enhance flow and add a touch of character, an archway was added between the living room and hallway.

—A Light-Filled Entry with Purpose—
The original layout of this ranch-style home included a narrow, uninviting entry, limited natural light, and a living area that felt underutilized and undefined.
These homeowners wanted to bring more intention and warmth to their home’s interior. By rethinking the flow and adding architectural definition, we created a spacious formal entry that now welcomes guests with natural light and is a perfect spot for the baby grand piano. A dedicated home office adds function, and the overall layout now feels open, inviting, and tailored to how the homeowners live.

—From Unfinished Basement to Rustic Retreat—
This 1,200-square-foot basement was once an exposed, underutilized space—complete with visible framing and foil insulation. >>>>

Now, it’s a thoughtfully remodeled lower level designed for work, relaxation, and welcoming overnight guests. As part of a rustic log home, the renovated space draws inspiration from its surroundings.

Knotty wood paneling and built-in cabinetry echo the warmth of the home’s log construction, while bright yellow paint and layered lighting bring a fresh, inviting energy to the space. A built-in Murphy bed adds flexibility for hosting, making this basement as functional as it is beautiful.

—A Family Room and Kitchen Transformation—
This once-unremarkable family room was transformed into a calm, sophisticated retreat through thoughtful design and cohesive materials. By remodeling the family room alongside the adjacent kitchen, we achieved a seamless flow between the two spaces.

The original family room had inward-swinging French doors that made furniture placement limited and a dated wood-burning fireplace. Now, outswing doors improve flow, and a gas fireplace with veined marble surround adds sophistication. A custom wood mantle ties in with the white oak kitchen elements for cohesion.
New built-ins offer space to display a cherished rock and fossil collection. Soft lighting, a neutral palette, and fresh paint complete the serene new look.

Once dim and drab, the kitchen now features timeless materials in classic, natural tones. Wide-plank white oak flooring runs throughout, tying the main floor together, while the cabinetry and countertops echo the warmth and refinement of the adjacent family room.
